Thales fournit des systèmes de commande de trains par télécommunications (CBTC) et des systèmes d’enclenchement destinés au secteur des transports en commun sur voie ferrée à l'échelle mondiale. Le centre de compétences pour la signalisation ferroviaire urbaine est situé au centre-ville de Toronto. Nous sommes le plus grand bureau situé au Canada et nous disposons d’un service pour chaque étape du cycle de vie du développement logiciel (SDLC). Cela comprend le logiciel, le matériel, la conception des systèmes, la vérification et la validation, les opérations, etc. Les équipes de services partagés dans les domaines des finances, des ressources humaines et des technologies de l’information sont également situées sur ce site. Thales provides world-leading Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and interlocking for mass rail transit applications globally. The Centre of Competence for Urban Rail Signalling is located right before you at mid-town Toronto. As the largest office in Canada, we house a department for every step of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)! This includes Software, Hardware, Systems Design, Verification & Validation, Operations, etc. The supporting corporate shared services teams in Finance, Human Resources and IT is also located at the office. This individual will lead teams/group to perform system operation activities to deliver a high quality and safe guideway design, on time, at the lowest cost.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Convert customer requirements into conceptual designs and operating scenarios 
  • Perform system analysis, modelling and simulation to specify the system performance, and verify the train control systems
  • Analyze train characteristics and safety requirements to define the safe braking model
  • Analyze guideway to define requirements for headway (passenger waiting time), safe train separation, interlocking requirements, new guideway elements and guideway designs to resolve operational conflicts
  • Deliver the project guideway application data, signal plan, crossover coordinates, track maps and guideway database to software groups
  • Ensure the guideway design is implemented in accordance with applicable standards and signaling principles
  • Interface and build strong working relationships with software and test groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issue
  • Coordinate the resolution of technical issues between Thales, subcontractors, vendors and customers in order to develop compliant, cost effective technical solutions to project problems
  • Development, implementation and maintenance of relevant tools whether procured or internally developed
  • Ability to work on several projects consecutively and demonstrated ability to deliver through others
  • Assist marketing in the preparation of technical proposals and budgets
  • Develop and manage plans to deliver technical solution within cost and schedule limits; including assessment and management of technical and programmatic risks
  • Present and gain approval for technical design proposals (operating scenarios) with internal functions, customers and management
  • Supervise consultants, contractors and more junior staff, by defining their work, and monitoring their progress
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and train others 
  • Propose and deliver updates to processes to improve our delivery, cost and quality
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the delivery of technical solution on time and on-budget via work package management
  • Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount
  • To be a recognized expert in operations by peers

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent

  • Must have 5-10 years relevant work experience

  • Experience with generic railway signaling techniques, Automatic Train Control system specifications, and military and industry based standards and regulatory norms

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a quality  technical solution on-time and below budget

  • Strong technical writing and interpersonal communication skills

  • Specification-driven hardware and software systems design and associated tools i.e. Doors

  • Strong planning, team planning and organization skills

  • Broad based engineering skill set and experience in the following: Mechanical and dynamic motion analysis; Experience with software intensive systems, modern software development methodology methods, processes, and tools; Testing and Troubleshooting of Electromechanical and software systems; Integration of complex systems; Signal processing and the application of digital filtering and signal recognition; Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS)

  • An IRSE Principles Systems designer/ System designer license would be an asset

This is a full-time opportunity located in Toronto, ON.

The primary language of work will be English and benefits include:

The salary will be $110,000.
