Purpose of this role:

Working within the Infrastructure Security Services team based in Doncaster with a responsibility for the maintenance and development of our internal and external network infrastructures.Primarily responsible for the day-to-day management, fault resolution and administration of Thales UK network security infrastructure.

Must have gained experience of Secure WAN, LAN and security technologies with experience of Cisco.

Good customer facing skills and excellent communication skills with strong experience of network design, operation and support.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experience of Secure WAN, LAN and security technologies with experience of Cisco.
  • Good customer facing skills and excellent communication skills with strong experience of network design, operation and support.
  • Knowledge of deploying Secure LAN, WAN and perimeter network security technologies
  • Knowledge of Virtual Private Networks and Remote Access Solutions
  • A good understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP Models
  • A natural ability to troubleshoot and solve network issues within expected timeframes.
  • A sound understanding of core network design and security principals.
  • Experience working with application-layer gateways and appliances (Load-Balancers, Proxy Servers)
  • The ability to interpret and react to information provided by enterprise monitoring solutions. Experience working with network monitoring protocols.
  • Broad knowledge of Information Security threats and countermeasures.
  • A desire to identify and propose service improvements to existing infrastructure solutions and technologies.
  • Travelling to other offices and sites as required
  • Typical Routines: (Description of regular procedures, processes etc. that are involved in the role)
  • Responding to, prioritising and escalating newly identified issues.
  • Developing new services and continuous evaluation of the existing estate
  • Proactively responding to vulnerability notifications
  • Security Device Patching
  • Managing the network security roadmap
  • Lifecycle Management of Security Devices

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Palo Alto Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
  • F5 Certified Administrator or Specialist (201, 301)

Work Experience, Key Technologies and Knowledge:

  • Supporting the LAN / WAN, Gateway and Datacentre environment in a predominantly Cisco deployed solution consisting of:
  • Cisco Networking Routing & Switching
  • Routers (3800s / 3900s / ASR1002 / ASR1006)
  • Switches (2900 Access Layer through to 6500s Core Layer)
  • Nexus Data Centre (7ks/5ks/2ks)
  • Firewalls (Cisco/Palo Alto/VMWare NSX)
  • Load Balancers (F5/ Citrix NetScaler)
  • Cisco ISE/ACS/PRIME
  • Cloud Security Services
  • SolarWinds (NPM/NCM/IPAM/Netflow/UDT)
  • VMWare ESX / NSX
  • Unix / Linux Administration
  • Knowledge of Endpoint Security Technologies

Qualities, Abilities and Aptitudes:

  • Knowledge of  working in an Agile working environment
  • Ability to improve the processes and tools used on a daily basis.
  • Desire to provide and/or contribute to continual service improvements.
  • Experience in analyzing trends / graphs to diagnose faults or anomalies.
  • Experience in producing technical documentation to a high standard.
  • Experience working Client and Gateway Security technologies
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Able to create and manage positive working relationships.
  • Comfortable working to deadlines.
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads effectively and be able to deal with a variety of tasks.
  • The ability to make decisions and accurately prioritise new incidents

Security Cleared or the ability to undertake a UK Security Clearance Check

In line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance which can require further evidence to be provided.
